Professional Experience Diary – Day 3

Today i had my first pre production meeting with the council today. I decided it would be a good idea to take my editor Dale along too, as he would be forming the structure of the DVD. I wanted to make a good impression, so i dressed smart casual, took a note-pad and pen and Dale did the same.

During the meeting we were told all the different aspects of the DVD the council wanted to include. There are 5 different options for people looking to go into care. Housing With Care, Residential Accommodation, Supported Tenancies, Shared Lives (Adult Placement), Shared Ownership. We will film different sections on each options, then on the final DVD have a chapter for each option. We will be conducting interviews with carers in different homes, and also family members that have needed to put people into care. As is it as strong subject, we will need to be professional and patient when filming. The director of the project will be a woman called Mandy Sanghera, she has been involved in making past DVD’s for the council. Another member of the team will be Lizzie Edwards. She will be helping with arranging the shoot dates with the different carers and families.

During the meeting, i remembered a lesson Pete Woodbridge had taught me about being firm with corporate videos about when the project is over. I agreed with Mandy that after production, they’ll be one rough cut viewing where they can flag any changes they want made. Then we’ll have a final cut viewing, and after that the project is complete. I said this because it is easy to keep going back to changing things, and the project will never end. I was very stern to get my point across with this.

No dates are set for production as of yet but i will go away and do some research on carers, and prepare for production.
